As Summerhill is an international community, it means we get children from all around the world so there is a natural interest in other languages and cultures. It is lovely that these cultures become a part of one’s childhood, growing up in an environment where some of their friends might not be able to speak their language very well and vice versa. The adventures of discovering communication, your friends bringing back a Japanese comic or Spanish foods from their countries is invaluable.
This leads to a natural interest in languages and cultures. We have a whole array of languages being taught at Summerhill whether it is by a teacher or just among friends.
Formally we offer:

- Spanish
- Hungarian
- Greek
- French
Sometimes a new staff member will join us with knowledge of a language not offered and so this will then become on offer. If a student is interested in a language which we don’t have in offer we would look for a teacher and accommodate lessons to the best of our ability.
